Overview

Built to OEM Spec, Engineered to Clean®

The XLS-720 4-pack is a full replacement set for the Pentair Clean & Clear Plus 320 (CCP320). That filter takes four cartridges, and this pack includes all four. It replaces Pentair R173573, 179134 and 178580, along with aftermarket Pleatco PCC80, Unicel C-7470 and Filbur FC-1976.

Each cartridge is 7" in diameter and 20" long with a 3" open end cap top and bottom, and carries 82 sq ft of filter media, 328 sq ft across the 4 cartridges in this pack. Clean & Clear Plus cartridges share that diameter and end cap, so length is the quick check: the 420 uses a 26 1/16" cartridge and the 520 a 32 1/16" cartridge. The older Clean & Clear Plus 360 cartridge is also 20" long, so check the part number (R173573 for the 320, R173574 for the 360).

We make every cartridge in Austin, Texas, and shipping is free.

Measuring your old cartridge

  • Length — cap to cap, with both end caps included.
  • Diameter — across the widest point of the pleats, not the end cap.
  • End caps — whether each end is open or closed, and the size of any opening.

A variance of ⅛" is normal. Anything larger usually means a different housing model — check the number printed on your old cartridge against the compatible parts list before ordering.

Questions

Fit, replacement & ordering

Still unsure after reading these? Send us the number stamped on your old cartridge and we will confirm the fit.

What part numbers does the XLS-720 replace on the Pentair Clean & Clear Plus 320 (CCP320)?

The Excel Filters XLS-720 replaces Pentair R173573, 179134 and 178580. Aftermarket equivalents: Pleatco PCC80, Unicel C-7470 and Filbur FC-1976.

How many cartridges does a Clean & Clear Plus 320 take?

Four. The XLS-720 4-pack is one full set for the filter.

How do I tell a Clean & Clear Plus 320 cartridge from the 420 or 520?

By length. The 320 cartridge is 20" long, the 420 is 26 1/16" and the 520 is 32 1/16". All three are 7" in diameter with 3" open ends. The older Clean & Clear Plus 360 cartridge is also 20" long, so check the part number (R173573 for the 320, R173574 for the 360).

What are the dimensions of the XLS-720 cartridge?

7" diameter, 20" long, 82 sq ft of filter media. Both end caps: 3" Open End. Measure your old cartridge before ordering if you are unsure of the part number.

Is this a genuine Pentair part?

No. The XLS-720 is an independently manufactured replacement cartridge, made in the USA by Excel Filters and built to match the Pentair R173573 specification. Pentair is a trademark of its owner, used only to show compatibility.

How often should the XLS-720 be replaced?

Most pool and spa cartridges last 1–2 seasons with regular rinsing. Replace it when cleaning no longer restores flow, the pleats fray, or the end caps crack.
