Measuring your old cartridge

  • Length — cap to cap, with both end caps included.
  • Diameter — across the widest point of the pleats, not the end cap.
  • End caps — whether each end is open or closed, and the size of any opening.

A variance of ⅛" is normal. Anything larger usually means a different housing model — check the number printed on your old cartridge against the compatible parts list before ordering.

Questions

Fit, replacement & ordering

Still unsure after reading these? Send us the number stamped on your old cartridge and we will confirm the fit.

How do I confirm this cartridge fits my system?

Match the part number printed on your current cartridge against the Compatibility list on this page, or measure the outer diameter, length, and end-cap style and compare them with the Specifications tab. A variance of about 1/8 inch is normal — anything larger usually means a different housing model.

Which part numbers does this cartridge replace?

It directly replaces R173573, 178580, 817-0081, PCC80, PCC80-M, PCC80-PAK4, C-7470, C-7470RA, FC-1976, FC-1976M, FC-1976P, Aladdin 18005, Baleen AK-60433, Darlly 70804, Pure N Clean PC-1976, Spa-Daddy SD-00162, Spa-Daddy SD-01095. This covers the OEM, Pleatco, Unicel, and Filbur cross-references listed in the Compatibility section on this page.

Which filter systems does this cartridge fit?

It fits the Pentair Clean & Clear Plus CCP320 and Waterway Crystal Water 325. If your housing is not listed, match the part number stamped on your current cartridge on our cross-reference chart.

Is this a genuine Pentair part?

No — it is an aftermarket replacement cartridge manufactured by Excel Filters in Austin, TX and built to OEM dimensions and media specs. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the original equipment manufacturer.

How often should I replace my filter cartridge?

Most pool and spa cartridges last one to two seasons depending on bather load and water chemistry. Rinse the cartridge monthly during heavy use and replace it when cleaning no longer restores flow or the pleats show wear.

What if it does not fit my housing?

First double-check the part number on your old cartridge against the Compatibility list on this page — most fit problems trace back to ordering for a different housing model than the listing covers. If you still have a fit question, contact us at (888) 532-2801 and our team will help you confirm the right cartridge before or after you order; returns are handled under our standard return policy.

Is Pentair 179134 a single cartridge or a four-pack?

Pentair lists 179134 as a four-cartridge replacement set for the Clean & Clear Plus 320. R173573 is an individual cartridge part number, with four required for that housing. This Excel Filters listing contains four XLS-720 replacement cartridges. Confirm your CCP320 housing model, cartridge dimensions and end caps before ordering.
