Measuring your old cartridge

  • Length — cap to cap, with both end caps included.
  • Diameter — across the widest point of the pleats, not the end cap.
  • End caps — whether each end is open or closed, and the size of any opening.

A variance of ⅛" is normal. Anything larger usually means a different housing model — check the number printed on your old cartridge against the compatible parts list before ordering.

Questions

Fit, replacement & ordering

Still unsure after reading these? Send us the number stamped on your old cartridge and we will confirm the fit.

How do I check that this cartridge fits?

Find the part number printed on your old cartridge in the Compatibility tab. If you cannot read it, measure the outside diameter and the length, check both end caps, and compare them with the Specifications tab. A difference of about 1/8 inch is normal; more than that usually means a different filter model. Matching measurements alone do not prove a fit: some of our cartridges share a size and differ in filtration area or end caps.

Which part numbers does this cartridge replace?

It replaces 17-2380, ULTRA-S5, C-4950, FC-2390, 373045, 817-5000, 6540-471 and 100533. The Compatibility tab lists the rest.

Which filters does this cartridge fit?

It fits the Pentair/Rainbow Dynamic Series I RDC-50 and RDC-50S, Pentair/Rainbow Dynamic Series II/III RTL-50 and RCF-50, Pentair/Rainbow Dynamic Series IV DFM and DFML (50 sq. ft.) and Pentair/Rainbow RDC-25 / RDC-25S (25 sq. ft.). The Compatibility tab lists the others. Check the model on your filter tank before you order.

Is this a genuine Pentair part?

No. Excel Filters makes this cartridge in Austin, Texas. It is not made, sold or endorsed by Pentair; we use the name only to show which filters it fits.

How often should I replace my filter cartridge?

Most pool and spa cartridges last one to two seasons, depending on how much the water is used and its chemistry. Rinse the cartridge monthly during heavy use, and replace it when cleaning no longer brings the flow back or the pleats show wear.

What if it does not fit?

First check the part number on your old cartridge against the Compatibility tab: most fit problems come from ordering for a different filter model. If you still have a question, call us at (888) 532-2801 and we will help you find the right cartridge, before or after you order. Returns follow our standard return policy.
